What is analytical chemistry?

Analytical chemistry is often defined as measurement science and involves the making chemical measurements. The goal of this course is for you to become proficient chemical “measurers.”  The paradigm for this course is performing the steps of a chemical analysis starting with asking the right questions and selecting a method and ending with evaluating the results.  By the end of this course, if given a sample, you should be able to figure out the best method for analyzing it, perform the analysis with impeccable lab skills, and estimate the uncertainty of the measurement.  These skills are not only useful for future analytical chemists, who develop new ways of making measurements, but to any scientists who make measurements and interpret their results.
